Building Your Wedding Around a Central Theme

    Friday, March 17, 2006
Every bride begins planning her wedding a little bit differently. Some have a grand idea of special traditions they want to include, while others are focusing on their dress.

I have a recommendation to every bride - start with your main wedding theme and work around that! From a main theme, every detail will emerge, from the intricate designs on your invitations to the lasting impression your favors will leave on your guests.

Many weddings don't have a particular theme, but I've found that the weddings that have everything tied in to one theme make a lasting impression.

Some brides don't even know the full extent of what themes are available - and it's important to be aware that there's a décor for almost anything you can imagine! Most couples know that if they're planning a beach wedding, they'll easily be able to find oceanic themed accessories.

But what if you're planning a country-style wedding and you need accessories that showcase your love of the country lifestyle? Well, there's an entire theme devoted to country-loving folks.
Millions of couples plan their wedding based on a religious theme or belief they hold dear to them. There are theme-based accessories for Jewish faiths, Christians, and any spiritual group where couples exchange vows and promise to love and cherish one another.

Whether you live in the East or Western part of the globe, you might want to include an Asian influence when you plan your nuptials. With authentic, rich silks and rich colors, an Asian theme can be a unique and artful way to express your love and bring luck to your future as man and wife.

I've even seen weddings planned around the bride's fondness for butterflies - and everything from the cake topper to the guest book was delicately designed with beautiful butterflies.

The point I'm trying to make is that your wedding should be...well, you! It should reflect you and your groom's personalities, and if that means you have gerbera daisies or autumn leaves on the stemware and ring bearer pillows, then believe me - your guests will treasure the experience.

Some brides prefer to have a traditional theme, with white bows being the central point of their décor. Others want everything to match the thousands of pearls they had hand-sewn onto their twenty-thousand dollar dream dress.
It's all up to you. Without a wedding theme, your wedding might appear confusing or like it was thrown together without proper planning. Everything you do for your wedding can incorporate the theme - including the invitations, décor, favors, and accessories.

Even your food can use a specific theme. Ask your cake decorator to design a cake using your chosen theme, and pick a cake topper that pulls it all together. Cake toppers no longer have to be just a bride and groom. These days, there is a plethora of toppers with unique designs.

Before you jump in and start planning your wedding details, look for a theme that will appeal to both you and your future husband. Then see which items you can purchase that will display your chosen theme and plan each aspect of your ceremony around it. It will make your job a lot easier and your guests will be in awe of your ability to plan a wedding like a pro!

Stayed tuned for Part 3 of our course that explores how to inject Asian themes into your wedding.

While current technology doesn't provide a way to permanently zap my freckles, I will learn to love them for the meantime.

Unbelievable as it may seem, we're finally tying the knot on Jan 21, 2007. This is an online journal that documents every tidbits of our wedding preparation as we savour every moment of it.
